What Is The GIMP?

The GNU Image Manipulation Program, or "GIMP" for short, is a cool freeware image editing program originally from the keyboards of Spencer Kimball and Peter Mattis that runs on most UNIX operating systems that provide an X11 display. It's even available for Windows now!

The GIMP works much like Adobe® PhotoShopTM and has a flexible plug-in and scripting interface to extend its capabilities. Full details can be found on The GIMP homepage.

My Plug-Ins

I wrote a lot of plug-ins for The GIMP, including the Despeckle, Sharpen, PNG, SGI, and Print plug-ins. All of these are part of the standard GIMP and are being actively maintained by other people. In particular, Robert Krawitz now heads development of the Gutenprint project.
